A great piece of history...The original structure here was purportedly built in 1849. It was many things over the past 170 yrs but was consistently maintained & improved upon. The structure is very unique & maybe the only existing "cord home' on the hill. The walls are comprised of 10" cord wood imbedded in concrete, sealed & protected from weather & insects. A true gem of mountain history, this was once a stage-stop on the overland stage route from Banning. The story goes that after legendary lawman, Wyatt Earp retired to San Bernardino, he would ride the stage up the mountain to play poker at the stage-stop. Over the years the property would become a stable for horses, a post office, a general store, the Summit Lodge & the Pine Cove Tavern. When the Simpsons took ownership in 1969, as their family home, it doubled as an art gallery to exhibit Ron's art. He was a talented and prolific artist. Annabelle did psychic readings in the center parlor. Their daughter Sue & her husband Scott are local professional musicians and have impeccably maintained & improved the property ever since. The 4 bdrm, 2 ba home is a warm, inviting, must-see property. |
